About Small Groups
Being a part of a large church like Madison Park Church can be a wonderful experience. The diversity, the capacity to pool resources for literally world changing ministry, the expanding menu of ministry options, the energy and wonder of so many different people from so many different backgrounds loving and serving and learning side-by side — it's Heaven sent.
But there has to be a sense of intimacy for any relationship to survive over time. And there's just no way you can develop depth of relationship with 1,000 people. Or 500. Or even 200. Realistically, a person's ability to "be close" is limited to 100 people or less. That's true in a church of 2,000 or a church of 200. You can be in a church of 100 and be alone; you can be in a church of 2,000 and find the deepest friendships that can be known. It all depends on whether or not you find yourself in a small group within the larger whole. That's why, in church terms, "big" can be very blessed and, at the same time, "small" can be beautiful, too.
Madison Park Church is increasingly hinged on Small Groups — groups of seven or ten or fifteen or even twenty people — agreeing to grow spiritually together. Each Small Group has its own identity, no two are exactly alike. Each has its own purpose and vary their meeting schedules.
By design, our small group owns our Core Values: Truth (the Bible is our guide), Worship (not just on Sunday, but as a daily way of life), Community (we've agreed to be faithful to each other and our larger Madison Park Church family), and Mission (God didn't draw us together just to have a good time and bind up each other's wounds we're here to do something significant for Jesus' sake).
A Madison Park Church small group is not just an association of friends. It's more than a class. It's deeper than a regular meeting of the church calendar. It's a committed group of seekers willing to explore, grow, learn, and serve, within the context of our larger church family. The power of that commitment opens doors to friendship and blessing that otherwise pass us by. The ultimate goal of Small Groups is to grow in authentic relationships with one another and grow in our relationship with Christ, so that we can reach out beyond ourselves to be the hands and feet of Christ.
